Timothy D. Polk, M.D. is a Retina Specialist & Vitreoretinal Surgeon at The Retina Care Center with offices in Maryland, Pennsylvania & Delaware. Dr. Polk has been in practice since 1997 and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the retina and vitreous. He is an expert in the management of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, retinal vein occlusions, and macular holes and puckers. He has published numerous professional articles and book chapters and has been an investigator for almost twenty national, multi-center clinical trials.
Dr. Polk received his retina fellowship training at two of the most prestigious institutions in the world. At the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, he worked with J. Donald M. Gass, M.D., considered by many to be the father of medical retina as a subspecialty. At the University of Iowa, he learned the latest techniques in complex vitreoretinal surgery and received extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of hereditary retinal disease.
Dr. Polk lives in Lutherville with his wife Ingrid. He enjoys tennis and golf, and plays the guitar and piano.

Dr. Polk is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). He is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) where he has served on the steering committee for the Diabetes EyeCare Program. He is a member of the medical staff at the Timonium Surgery Center and the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. He is also a Clinical Instructor at the University of Maryland and Sinai Hospital. He is passionate about training the next generation of ophthalmologists and has won numerous teaching awards for his efforts to educate residents and medical students. Dr. Polk works equally hard to educate his patients about their eye disease while using language that is easy to understand.
